DSD in the Wholesale Industry

Direct Store Delivery or DSD is a very common term in the retail and wholesale industry.  It means, as you can imagine, that you deliver products to each store.  In addition, Full Service DSD implies that you deliver product to each store and clean it, merchandise it, stock it and take back any damaged product.  This is the favorite kind of delivery for the majority of retail stores.

Direct Store Delivery or DSD is a term loved by retail stores, especially large retail stores and chains.  They love it because it means they get great service at each of their locations.

DSD is the most important type of delivery for the small wholesale distributor so we’ll spend a bit more time on fully explaining what it is.

Direct Store Delivery is a term used by retailers to specify products that are brought to the retail stores by a distributor.  They refer to this as DSD.

These products are not mailed to the store or brought through warehouse programs.  They are delivered directly to each store and many times placed on the shelves and merchandised by the distributor.

Typically this type of delivery is done to these types of stores:
-Convenience Stores: ARCO AM-PM, 7-ELEVEN, Circle K, Independents, etc.
-Supermarkets: Safeway, Ralph’s, Albertsons, Independents, etc.
-Pharmacies: Walgreen’s, CVS, Sav-on, etc.
-Gas Stations with Stores: Shell, Exxon, Station 76, etc.
-Super Stores: Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, etc.
-Auto Part Dealers: Auto Quest, Auto Zone, Advanced, etc.
-Liquor Stores
-Hardware Stores
-Gift Shops
